Ingredients

8 ounces self raising flour , sifted
4 ounces butter , softened
4 ounces caster sugar
1 teaspoon ground mixed spice
2 ounces walnuts , ground
3 ounces chopped dates
2 ounces chopped walnuts
1 egg
7 tablespoons milk

Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 180C/350F and grease a 20cm/8inch cake tin with butter.
2.In a large bowl beat together butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy.
3.Beat in the egg, self-raising flour, mixed spice and milk. Stir in the walnuts and dates.
4.Pour the mixture into your prepared tin and smooth out the surface. Scatter chopped walnuts over the top to decorate.
5.Bake for 35-40 minutes until a skewer comes out clean.
6.Once done, allow the cake to cool in the tin for 10 minutes.
7.Remove the cake from the tin and cool on a wire rack. Enjoy!
