Ingredients

1 lb lean ground beef ( or lamb )
1 onion , minced
1 teaspoon minced parsley
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 1/3 cups lard
2/3 cup boiling water
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
milk ( for brushing on pastry )
1/4 cup gravy
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Two penny pies are a classic British dish that date back to the 17th century. These individual pies were originally designed for street vendors to sell to the poor, hence their name 'two penny'. The pies are made with a delicious lard crust and filled with spiced ground beef. They are the perfect comfort food for a cold winter day.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
2.In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, minced onion, minced parsley, thyme, salt, and pepper
3.In a separate bowl, mix together lard and boiling water until lard is melted
4.In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt
5.Add flour mixture to lard mixture and stir until a dough forms
6.Divide dough in half and roll out one half
7.Cut out circles using a biscuit cutter or a cup
8.Place rounds onto a baking sheet and brush with milk
9.Spoon ground beef mixture onto each round
10.Roll out the remaining dough and cut out another set of rounds
11.Place rounds on top of the beef and pinch the edges together
12.Brush again with milk
13.Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown
