Ingredients

2 cups oatmeal
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk
Crowdie-Mowdie is a traditional Scottish dessert that has been enjoyed for centuries. It is a steamed pudding made up of oatmeal, milk and salt and is a perfect treat for individuals with a sweet tooth. It is usually enjoyed during festivals, such as Hogmanay, and is a great way to keep you energized during the cold Scottish winters. The name Crowdie-Mowdie is thought to come from a Gaelic phrase which means clouted cream pudding. In the past, it was made using clotted cream instead of milk which added a rich taste and texture. However, the traditional pudding recipe has evolved over time and is still enjoyed today!

Instructions

1.Mix oatmeal and salt together in a bowl.
2.Gradually add milk to the bowl while stirring to make dough.
3.Pour the mixture into a greased pudding bowl and cover with a lid.
4.Place the bowl in a large pan with boiling water, the water should reach halfway up the sides of the bowl.
5.Cover the pan and let it simmer for about 2 hours.
6.Remove from heat and let it cool down before removing from the bowl and cutting into slices.
