1 lb beef round steak | |
2 tablespoons vegetable oil | |
2 teaspoons salt | |
1/8 teaspoon pepper | |
1 onion , thinly sliced | |
2 bay leaves | |
1 tablespoon brown sugar | |
2 cups boiling water | |
2 tablespoons flour | |
1 tablespoon paprika | |
1/4 cup cold water | |
1 tablespoon vinegar |
1. | Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. |
2. | Cut beef into 1 inch cubed pieces. |
3. | Heat the oil in a dutch oven over medium-high heat. |
4. | Brown the beef cubes in batches, seasoning each batch with salt and pepper. |
5. | Remove the browned beef from the dutch oven. |
6. | Add the sliced onions and bay leaves to the dutch oven. |
7. | Cook for 5 minutes, or until the onions are translucent. |
8. | Add the brown sugar and stir until it dissolves. |
9. | Add the beef back into the dutch oven. |
10. | Pour in the boiling water. |
11. | Mix together the flour and paprika. |
12. | Add the flour and paprika mixture to the dutch oven. |
13. | Stir until it thickens. |
14. | Add in the cold water and vinegar. |
15. | Cover the dutch oven and bake for 2 hours. |
16. | Remove bay leaves before serving. |
