1 egg yolk , slightly beaten | |
1/2 cup confectioners ' sugar | |
1 tablespoon 2 % low-fat milk | |
apricot jam , warmed | |
toasted sliced almonds | |
1/4 cup flour | |
1/4 cup sugar | |
2 tablespoons butter , melted |
1. | Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. |
2. | In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. |
3. | On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut each sheet into 12 squares. |
4. | Arrange the squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. |
5. | Brush the squares with the egg wash mixture. |
6. | In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar. |
7. | Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over half of the squares. |
8. | Spoon the jam, applesauce, cranberry chutney, lemon curd, pastry cream, or chocolate shavings onto the remaining squares. |
9. | Using a fork, crimp the edges of the squares with filling. |
10. | In a separate bowl, combine the softened butter, sugar, and cinnamon. |
11. | Add the cream cheese or mascarpone cheese, the egg yolk, and the confectioners' sugar. |
12. | Mix well and spoon the mixture onto the squares with filling. |
13. | Sprinkle the tops of the squares with the toasted sliced almonds and sugar. |
14. | Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. |
15. | Serve warm or at room temperature. |
