While Danish Sugar Pretzels aren’t particularly healthy, they can provide some energy for those in need of a quick snack.
3 cups all-purpose flour | |
1 cup butter , firm , but not hard | |
1 teaspoon baking powder | |
1 egg | |
1/2 cup heavy cream | |
pearl sugar or crushed sugar cube , for topping |
1. | Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. |
2. | In a mixing bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Add butter and mix until crumbly. |
3. | Add egg and heavy cream and continue mixing until you have a smooth dough. Do not overmix. |
4. | Divide the dough into two portions. Roll out each to a thickness of 1/4 inch (1/2 cm) and cut into shapes. |
5. | Brush each piece with a beaten egg and sprinkle with pearl sugar or crushed sugar cube. |
6. | Bake for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature. |
