Ingredients

1/4 cup onion , finely grated
2 tablespoons fresh basil , finely cut or 1 tablespoon crumbled dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 lbs filet of beef or 2 lbs boneless sirloin , cut into 1 1/2 inch cubes
6 -8 scallions , cut into 4 inch long pieces , washed thoroughly and dried
1 lemon , quartered
fresh coriander or parsley sprig
Basturma or Russian Marinated Skewered Beef is a traditional Middle Eastern and Turkish dish commonly served as a mezze or appetizer. It involves marinating chunks of beef in a flavorful mixture of onions, basil, red wine vinegar and seasonings. The marinated beef is then threaded onto skewers along with scallions and grilled until tender and juicy. This dish is simple yet full of flavor and perfect for any special occasion or backyard barbeque. Serve with a side of fresh greens and lemon wedges.

Instructions

1.Combine onion, basil, salt, pepper and vinegar
2.Mix well and toss in beef cubes making sure they are coated well. Marinate at room temperature for atleast 2 hours.
3.Preheat the grill on high heat
4.Thread meat cubes on soaked skewers followed by scallions, alternating between meat and scallions
5.Grill over high heat until meat is done to your liking.
6.Serve hot with lemon wedges and fresh coriander or parsley sprig
