Italian Beef Sandwiches, West-Sider Style is a popular dish in Chicago, specifically in the Italian-American neighborhoods on the west side. The sandwich is hot and hearty, with tender beef that has been slow-roasted and spiced to perfection. This version includes a mix of garlic, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes to create a rub for the beef. The cooking liquid is then mixed with the shredded beef to keep it juicy and flavorful. Finally, sliced green bell peppers are sautéed in olive oil and mixed with the shredded beef to add another layer of flavor and texture, although this is optional.
