Ingredients

1 medium sized leek
1 large green cooking apple ( such as a Granny Smith )
1/4 lb mushroom
1 lb ground beef
1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons curry powder ( to taste )
2 tablespoons oil , divided
4 teaspoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon instant beef bouillon
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup currants or 1/4 cup dark seedless raisins
1/2 of a 17 1/4 ounce package frozen puff pastry

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 375°F.
2.Cut the leek into thin slices and then quarter them. Peel, core and chop the apple into small pieces. Clean and slice the mushrooms.
3.Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
4.Add the curry powder, leek, apple, mushrooms, and 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet with the beef, cooking until the vegetables are tender.
5.In a separate pan, heat the remaining oil and add the flour, salt, instant bouillon, and pepper. Whisk together and cook for about 1 minute.
6.Gradually stir in the water and continue cooking until the mixture thickens. Add this to the skillet with the beef and the vegetables. Stir in the currants or raisins.
7.Roll out the puff pastry and use a knife to cut it into strips. Place the beef mixture in the middle of the pastry strips and then braid the dough over the top.
8.Place the beef braid in the oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
9.Let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
