1 tablespoon canola oil , divided
1 1/2 lbs beef stew meat
3/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground red pepper
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 can diced tomatoes , undrained
1 can dark red kidney beans , rinsed and drained
1 can hot chili beans

Instructions

1.Heat 1 1/2 teaspoons oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add half of beef; sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cook 6 minutes, browning on all sides. Remove beef from pan with a slotted spoon. Repeat procedure with remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons oil, beef, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
2.Add onion and bell pepper to pan; cook 6 minutes or until vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and jalapeños; cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add wine; bring to a boil. Cook 1 minute, scraping pan to loosen browned bits. Return beef to pan. Stir in remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, sugar, tomato paste, and next 7 ingredients (through diced tomatoes); bring to a boil.
3.Reduce heat, and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Add beans; simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with sour cream, cheese, green onions, and cornbread, if desired.
