Feijoada is a traditional Brazilian dish that's often served at special occasions or on weekends when friends and family can gather together. Originally a peasant dish made with whatever meats and beans were on hand, this hearty stew has become a beloved national dish. This version uses beef stew meat and kielbasa sausage, but you can use other meats or omit the meat entirely to make it vegetarian. The combination of black beans, chili powder, and orange juice gives the stew a warm, earthy flavor that's perfect for cooler weather.

Instructions

1.In a large pot or dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
2.Once the oil is hot, add the beef stew meat and cook until all sides are browned.
3.Add in the kielbasa and onions, stirring occasionally until the onions are softened and the kielbasa has a nice sear.
4.Add the garlic, chili powder, diced tomatoes, orange juice, and red wine vinegar to the pot and stir.
5.Add in the pureed black beans and the whole black beans, stir, and bring the mixture to a simmer.
6.Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid. Let the stew cook for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the beef is tender and the flavors have melded together.
7.Serve the stew hot with sliced jalapeno, an orange wedge, and some orange zest on top.
