Ingredients

1 large green plantain , peeled and sliced lengthwise and in half
oil ( for deep frying )
1 tablespoon butter
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 cup thinly sliced onion
2 cloves garlic , smashed and minced
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1 -2 pinch cayenne or 1 -2 pinch dried chipotle powder , to taste
6 ounces shaved shoulder steak ( or other tender cut such as flank , or thinly sliced chicken breast meat )
salt & freshly ground black pepper , to taste
4 slices American cheese
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
romaine lettuce
thinly sliced tomatoes or roasted red pepper
1 teaspoon melted butter
1/4 teaspoon roasted minced garlic

This sandwich features two slices of fried green plantains instead of traditional bread, with thin slices of steak, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes inside. Instructions

1.Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
2.Add the sliced plantains and fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
3.In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add olive oil.
4.Add onions and cook until they soften and begin to turn golden brown.
5.Add garlic, cumin, and cayenne or chipotle powder. Stir until fragrant.
6.Add the shaved steak and cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
7.Reduce heat to low. Add a slice of American cheese on top of the meat. Cover with a lid and let the cheese melt.
8.In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, roasted garlic, and melted butter.
9.Assemble the sandwich: place a slice of fried plantain, a few leaves of romaine lettuce, sliced tomatoes or roasted red pepper, the meat with melted cheese, and a second slice of fried plantain. Spread the garlic mayonnaise mixture on top of the second slice of plantain. Serve hot.
