Ingredients

3 ( .25 ounce ) packages active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
8 cups bread flour
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 teaspoons salt
6 egg yolks
1 cup margarine , melted
1 1/2 cups warm milk
1 cup golden raisins
2 egg whites , beaten
Hunza bread is a traditional bread from the Hunza Valley, in Northern Pakistan. It is also known as Hunza cake and is consumed in various regions of Central Asia. This bread is a perfect healthy breakfast option and can be eaten with a variety of toppings like peanut butter, honey or fruit preserves. It is also popular as a snack or tea-time accompaniment.

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let stand until creamy for about 10 minutes.
2.In a large bowl, mix together bread flour, sugar and salt.
3.Make a well in the center and add the egg yolks, margarine, warm milk and yeast mixture.
4.Stir together until a smooth dough forms and knead for 10 minutes.
5.Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel and let it rise for about 1 hour in a warm, draft-free place.
6.Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
7.Punch down the dough and knead it briefly.
8.Mix in raisins and divide the dough into two.(This recipe makes 2 loaves)
9.Form each half into a round shape (or any desired shape) and place on greased baking sheets.
10.Brush with beaten egg white and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
11.Let cool before slicing and serving.
