Ingredients

4 lbs skinless chicken , fat removed , cut in pieces
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
2 tablespoons canola oil
3 garlic cloves
1 medium onion , chopped
1 cup orange juice
1 cup water
salt and pepper
1 pinch saffron ( can use tumeric as this is used only for color )
2 tablespoons raisins
1 tablespoon capers
1/2 cup almonds , unsalted , blanched , coarsely chopped
2 valencia oranges , peeled and sliced

Instructions

1.In a bowl, mix the ground cinnamon and cloves together. Rub this mixture onto the chicken pieces.
2.Heat the canola oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add chicken and cook for about 10 minutes until brown. Remove the chicken and keep it aside.
3.Add garlic and onion to the pan and cook for 5 minutes.
4.Pour in orange juice and water. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of turmeric (if using) for color. Add saffron or turmeric powder. Stir and bring to a boil.
5.Add the chicken back into the pan along with raisins, capers, and almonds. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
6.Add sliced oranges 5 minutes before the end of the cooking time.
7.Serve with rice or salad.
