Ingredients

2 1/2 cups potatoes , cooked and diced
2 celery ribs , chopped
1 medium tomatoes , peeled and diced
1/4 cup raisins , soaked in hot water until plump
8 tablespoons vinegar
1/2 cup ketchup ( optional )
1/2 cup water ( optional )
6 Spanish olives , pitted , chopped
1 teaspoon sugar ( Up to 2 teaspoons sugar ) ( optional )
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup apple , unpeeled and diced
Picadillo is a flavorful dish with its roots in Spain, but it has been adapted by different cultures throughout the centuries. The Flores Family's El Charro Cafe, located in Tucson, Arizona, is where this version of Picadillo (Hash) was created. The dish consists of lean ground beef, cooked potatoes, raisins, Spanish olives, and aromatic spices like cinnamon and garlic, all cooked together in a skillet until tender and juicy. This hearty meal is often served with rice, tortillas, or bread and enjoyed by families in the Southwest as a comforting staple.

Instructions

1.In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the lean ground beef until browned.
2.Add the garlic, onion, and celery and cook for another 5 minutes.
3.Add the diced cooked potatoes, peeled and diced tomatoes, raisins, and cinnamon and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
4.Add the vinegar, water, ketchup (optional), and Spanish olives and stir everything together.
5.Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.
6.Taste and add sugar (optional) and salt to your liking.
