Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a 20cm cake tin and line with baking paper.
2.In a mixing bowl, beat butter, brown sugar and maple syrup together using an electric mixer.
3.Add beaten eggs and mix well.
4.Combine baking soda and milk in a cup. Stir into butter mixture.
5.Add flour, baking powder and ground ginger into the bowl and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
6.Toss cornflour with the drained pears and fold into the cake mixture.
7.Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for 50-60 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.
8.Remove the cake from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before removing it from the tin.
9.To make the glaze, mix the maple syrup in a small bowl. Brush the glaze over the top of the cake while still warm.
