Ingredients

3/4 cup vegetable oil
200 g thin vermicelli
4 cups water
1 3/4 - 2 1/2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup walnut halves ( optional ) or 1/2 cup coconut flakes ( to garnish ) ( optional )

Instructions

1.Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

4.Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes or until the vermicelli is soft and the mixture is thickened.
5.Dissolve the cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of cold water in a small bowl, then add to the saucepan and stir until combined.
6.Cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened even more and the cornstarch has been fully incorporated.
7.Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
8.Serve warm, garnished with coconut or walnuts if desired.
