Ingredients

3/4 lb Korean Rice Cake ( can find it at any Oriental store- they look like oval disks of white )
1/4 - 1/2 lb chopped frozen beef shoulder , to preference
2 1/2 quarts water
1 tablespoon beef dashida ( find it at an Oriental store )
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 garlic clove , crushed
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 green onion , sliced
Duk Guk is a traditional Korean soup that is often consumed during the Lunar New Year celebration. The soup is believed to symbolize prosperity and good luck for the coming year. Instructions

1.Soak the rice cake in cold water for at least 30 minutes.
2.Rinse the rice cake and set aside.
3.In a pot, boil the beef shoulder for 5-10 minutes and discard the water.
4.Add 2 1/2 quarts of water, beef dashida, and salt to the pot and bring to a boil, then add the rice cake.
5.Reduce heat to medium and cook for 10-15 minutes.
6.Add sesame oil, crushed garlic, and soy sauce to the pot and stir lightly.
7.Sprinkle sliced green onion on top and serve hot.
