Ingredients

3/4 cup whole black lentils ( whole urad )
2 tablespoons kidney beans
1 teaspoon cumin seed
2 green chilies , slit
1 stick cinnamon
2 cloves
3 cardamoms
1/2 cup onion , finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 1/2 cups fresh tomato puree
3/4 cup cream
2 cups water , to boil the lentils in
3/4 cup water
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander

Dal Makhani is a classic North Indian dish that has won the hearts of food lovers across the country. Instructions

1.Soak the black lentils and kidney beans overnight and then pressure cook them with 2 cups of water for up to 10 whistles.
2.In a separate pan, heat some butter and add cumin seeds, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom. Once they start to sizzle, add onion and green chilies and saute them until the onions turn brown.
3.Add ginger-garlic paste, chili powder, turmeric powder, and tomato puree to the pan. Cook on medium heat until the puree reduces and separates from the butter.
4.Add cooked lentils, salt, and 3/4 cup of water. Simmer for 20-25 minutes until the lentils become soft and creamy.
5.Add cream and chopped coriander and simmer for another 5-7 minutes. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
