Ingredients

1 lb unsalted butter
cheesecloth
Ghee, also known as Usli Ghee, is a traditional staple in Indian cuisine. It is made by clarifying butter, which means removing the milk solids and water from the butterfat. This produces a rich, nutty flavored oil that is suitable for high heat cooking and adds a delicious flavor to your dishes. Ghee has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to improve digestion, boost immunity and reduce inflammation. In Indian households, ghee is used for cooking, as a condiment, and even for religious purposes. The preparation of ghee requires patience and attention, but the end result is worth it.

Instructions

1.Cut butter into small pieces and place them in a pot.
2.Heat the pot over medium-low heat and let it cook stirring occasionally for around 20 minutes.
3.You will hear a crackling sound while the butter is cooking, which signals that the water is evaporating from the butter.
4.Reduce the heat to low when there is no more crackling sound.
5.Cook until the foam on top clears up, and clarifies.
6.Remove the pot from heat and skim any remaining foam from the surface.
7.Strain the butter through a cheesecloth.
8.Let it cool down in a glass jar.
9.Store the ghee in an airtight container in the refrigerator when not in use.
