Ingredients

1 cup dried peas
1 tablespoon white Urad Dal , soaked in water for a few minutes and drained
4 -5 red chilies , for grinding
1 potato , grated
1 carrot , grated
2 green chilies , washed and chopped
1 inch ginger , washed , peeled and choppped
asafoetida powder , as required
fresh coriander , chopped , as required
curry leaf , chopped , as required
salt , as required
oil ( for frying )

Instructions

1.Soak the dried peas for at least 6 hours or overnight.
2.Grind the soaked peas, drained urad dal and red chilies together to a coarse paste without adding water.
3.Add grated potato, grated carrot, chopped green chilies, chopped ginger, asafoetida powder, chopped coriander leaves and salt to the ground paste and mix well.
4.Shape small balls out of the mixture, flatten them a little and make a hole in the middle of each vada.
5.Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the vadas until golden brown.
6.Serve hot with any chutney of your choice.
