Ingredients

1/2 cup oil
2 onions , chopped
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
2 tomatoes , chopped
1/4 cup water , if needed
2 lbs chicken , cut into 8 pieces
1 teaspoon garlic clove , minced
3 green chilies
1/4 cup fresh cilantro , minced

Instructions

1.In a large skillet or wok, heat the oil over medium-high heat.
2.Add the onions and salt and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.

4.Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates from the mixture.
5.If the mixture appears dry, add 1/4 cup of water.
6.Add the chicken pieces and garlic and stir until the chicken is well coated with the spice mixture.
7.Bring the mixture to a simmer, reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet and cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is tender and the sauce is thick.
8.Add the green chilies and cilantro and stir to combine. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
