Ingredients

1 1/4 lbs shark fillets , cut into 2-inch cubes
7 -8 shallots , chopped lengthwise
10 kokum , petals
1/4 cup grated coconut
1 teaspoon coriander seed
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 of a medium sized onion , coarsely chopped
7 whole kashmiri red chilies
5 peppercorns
1 teaspoon cumin seed
4 -5 garlic cloves
1 inch piece ginger
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon sugar
4 tablespoons vinegar
Shark Ambotik is a popular seafood recipe of Goa, India. It is a spicy and sour dish made with shark fish along with freshly grated coconut. The dish is also known as ambat tik and is a tangy curry that is relished with rice in the south of India. The dish is made with a blend of spices and kokum which gives it its unique flavor and aroma. The dish can be served for lunch or dinner and is a complete meal in itself as it contains rice and protein in it. This dish is a perfect amalgamation of sour and spicy flavors, making it an alluring dish for spice lovers.

Instructions

1.Take a pan, add oil and heat it up.
2.Add peppercorns, cumin, coriander seeds, kashmiri red chillies and saute for 5 minutes.
3.Add coarsely chopped onion, garlic, ginger and fry for 3 minutes.
4.Add grated coconut and fry for next 5 minutes.
5.Turn off the heat and add little water to make a fine paste, and keep it aside.
6.Heat oil in a pot, and add shallots and saute till translucent.
7.Add the grounded paste, salt, sugar, turmeric powder and kokum petals.
8.Add 2 cups water and mix well.
9.Once the mixture comes to a boil, add shark and cover the pot.
10.Let it cook for 10-12 minutes on low flame with covered lid.
