Ingredients

1 kg lean ground beef
3 large aubergines
2 cups sunflower oil
450 g basmati rice or 450 g brown basmati rice , if you prefer
2 large onions
1 teaspoon mixed Arabic spices or 1 teaspoon allspice , if you prefer
2 teaspoons salt
2 liters cold water
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 teaspoon turmeric
4 tablespoons of melted butter
200 g blanched split almonds , chopped if you prefer
Makloubeh is a popular dish in Middle Eastern cuisine that translates to 'upside down' in Arabic. Instructions

1.Begin by frying the aubergines in sunflower oil until brown in a deep pot.
2.Remove the aubergines and set aside.

4.In the same pot, brown the ground beef and add the Arabic spices/allspice, salt, black pepper, and turmeric.
5.Add 2 liters of cold water and let it come to a boil.
6.Add the washed rice to the boiling water and let it cook for 10-15 minutes.
7.Once the rice is almost cooked, add layers of aubergine, then onion, and top it off with the cooked meat.
8.Pour melted butter over the top.
9.Cover tightly and simmer on low heat for 30 minutes.
10.Remove from heat and let it stand for 5 minutes before serving.
