Ingredients

500 g basmati rice or 500 g long-grain rice
400 g ground lamb or 400 g beef
4 medium onions
4 tablespoons tomato paste
cooking oil
salt
black pepper

Instructions

1.Soak the rice for at least 2 hours and drain.
2.In a non-stick pot, fry 2 diced onions in 3 tablespoons of cooking oil until golden brown.
3.Add the ground lamb or beef and fry for 10-15 minutes or until the meat is cooked.
4.In another pot, bring water to a boil and add enough salt to make it lightly salty.
5.Add the rice and boil for 8-10 minutes or until the rice is cooked.
6.Drain the rice and rinse with cold water.
7.In the same pot, put 2 tablespoons of cooking oil, the remaining 2 diced onions, and 4 tablespoons of tomato paste.
8.Simmer for 2-3 minutes and then add the cooked meat, salt, and black pepper.
9.Divide the rice into three parts and layer them with the meat sauce in between.
10.Cover the pot with a lid and cook on low heat for 40-50 minutes.
11.Mix the rice gently and serve.
