Challah is a traditional Jewish bread that is braided and eaten during the Sabbath and holidays such as Rosh Hashanah. This daily bread has a distinctive texture due to the egg wash applied before baking that gives it a shiny and rustic look. The most traditional recipe's ingredients include eggs, flour, water, yeast, salt, and sugar but are often modified to include additional ingredients. Bread Machine Kneaded Challah retains the traditional recipe's authenticity but makes it easier and quicker to prepare with the help of a bread machine. This bread can be served fresh with butter, jam, or on its own. Its versatility makes it ideal for sandwiches, thick toast, or bread pudding as well.

Instructions

1.Measure and add ingredients in the bread machine pan in the following order: water, salt, honey, eggs, melted butter, and all-purpose flour. Make a small well at the center and add the active dry yeast keeping it away from the liquids.
2.Plug in the bread maker and set it to the Dough setting then press start.
3.Using lightly floured hands, take the dough out of the bread maker and place it on a floured surface.
4.Divide the dough into three equal parts then roll each into 15-inch long ropes. Place on a greased baking sheet and braid them. Tuck the ends under then brush with milk and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
5.Cover with a greased plastic wrap and set aside until it doubles its size.
6.Preheat oven to 375°F and bake the challah for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool completely before slicing and serving.
