Ingredients

20 leaves Chinese cabbage ( Napa Cabbage )
1 lb ground pork ( or 1/2 lb . of each ) or 1 lb beef ( or 1/2 lb . of each )
1 tablespoon wine ( for MEAT ) or 1 tablespoon cream sherry ( for MEAT )
2 tablespoons chopped scallions
1 teaspoon gingerroot ( chopped or ground )
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 cup chicken broth or 1 cup chicken stock
1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
5 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon cream sherry ( for SAUCE )

Instructions

1.Cut the cabbage leaves into 2-inch squares. Set aside.
2.Combine the meat, wine, scallions and ginger in a large bowl; mix well.
3.Add 1 tablespoon of the cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of the sesame oil; mix well.
4.Divide the mixture into 20 portions; shape each portion into a ball and wrap the meat mixture tightly with cabbage leaves.
5.Put the meatballs on a heated plate and steam for 10-15 minutes.
6.Combine the chicken broth, soy sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder and water in a small bowl.
7.Dissolve the remaining 2 tablespoons of cornstarch in 3 tablespoons of water; add to the chicken broth mixture.
8.Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
9.Reduce the heat to low; cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
10.Remove from heat and stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and 1 tablespoon of cream sherry.

PROS

These cabbage balls are a delicious appetizer that is relatively easy to make.
