oil ( for deep frying )
750 g sugar
375 ml water
2 cinnamon sticks
4 whole cloves
2 inches ginger , peeled

These sweet and syrupy fritters are braided and fried, then soaked in a sticky syrup made from sugar, water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and ginger. Instructions

1.Sift together the cake flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.
2.Rub the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles bread crumbs.
3.Mix in the beaten eggs and enough milk to form a soft dough.
4.Knead for a few minutes and roll out the dough to 5 mm thickness.
5.Cut into strips, then twist each strip and join the ends to make a braided shape.
6.Heat the oil in a deep pan and fry the koeksisters until golden brown.
7.In another pot, make the syrup by bringing the sugar, water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and ginger to boil.
8.Slowly pour the hot syrup over the hot koeksisters.
9.Let it cool for a while, strain the syrup, and pour it over the koeksisters again.
