8 eggs
1 quart milk
1 cup granulated sugar
1 ounce melted butter , plus extra
melted butter , for greasing

1 cup maraschino cherry ( or glace )

Instructions

1.Heat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2.In a medium saucepan over low heat, cook the granulated sugar, stirring constantly, until melted and golden brown. Quickly pour the hot caramel into a 9-inch pie dish, swirling the dish to coat the bottom and sides evenly. Set the dish aside.
3.In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs until well blended. Gradually stir in the milk, melted butter, and banana or vanilla extract. Stir until just combined. Fold in the cherries.
4.Pour the egg mixture into the prepared pie dish. Bake, uncovered, in the preheated oven for 35 to 50 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
5.Let the custard cool in the dish for 30 minutes, then turn out onto a platter by holding the dish and inverting it all. It should come out with ease. Chill the custard in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours, or until set.
6.Cut into wedges and serve with whipped cream.
