As a parent, you want to ensure that your child is getting the proper nutrients they need for healthy growth and development. But getting a picky eater to eat can be a challenge, especially when they’re only three years old. As a content editor at Recipe Wise, I’ve worked with many families and nutritionists to come up with meal ideas that will please even the pickiest eaters. Here are some of my favourite nutritious meal ideas for 3 year olds in the UK.
1. Mini English Muffin Pizzas: Spread tomato sauce or passata on top of small English muffins, sprinkle grated cheese and add slices of ham or vegetables on top. Toast in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
2. Rainbow Veggie Skewers: Thread cherry tomatoes, cucumber chunks, bell pepper slices, and baby carrots onto skewers, and serve with hummus or yogurt dip.
3. Cheesy Omelette with Wholegrain Toast: Mix grated cheese and chopped vegetables into beaten eggs, and cook in a nonstick pan until set. Serve with wholegrain toast and a side of fruit.
4. Tuna Salad with Wholegrain Crackers: Mix canned tuna, chopped vegetables, and mayonnaise together, and serve with wholegrain crackers and slices of cucumber or bell pepper.
5. Chicken and Vegetable Stir Fry with Rice: Cook diced chicken with garlic and ginger in a wok or large frying pan, then add sliced vegetables like broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers. Serve over brown rice.
Remember, it’s not just about what your child eats, but how they eat it. Make mealtimes fun by letting your child help with preparation and presentation. Use cookie cutters to make fun shapes out of vegetables or sandwiches, and let your child choose their own plate or bowl. By making mealtime enjoyable, you’re more likely to encourage healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.
